Casting and turning
After I found out which alloy to use I decided to make the finials, pillars and feet. First I made a drawing of the finials and feet and copied the contour to a thin piece of metal. This mould I used to turn an original in bronze. From these bronze parts I made castings in brass.
After that I cast four rods of brass which I turned in the shape of the pillars.
The next step was casting and forging plates to make the dial plate, the chapter ring and the alarm disc. I tried to cast the plates as thin as possible, to prevent that heavy forging was needed. I got help from a friend who is a silversmith with forging the plates in the right proportion.
